ABOUT WE DO THE WORK
WDTW is a union-affiliated, independent organization of workers, unemployed, and veterans. We Do The Work is more than just words. It’s worker-run media that brings people together, unflinchingly tells our side of the story, and takes the fight to management.
Wall Street is mounting a growing offensive on people in the US and around the world. The current worker strategies used to oppose that offensive aren’t working and have turned potential fights into negotiated surrender. In times like these, we need an alternative. We believe that working people like us can and must lead that alternative, that we are both capable and tasked with building the alternative ourselves.
WDTW operates on the following ideas:
1. That all working class people need an independent voice, strategy, and political organization of our own. In building this movement, we can create connections for mutual aid and the exchange of ideas, and strengthen our identity and power as workers.
2. That racism, sexism, and other attempts to divide us by hurting one group worse than others need to be recognized, confronted, and defeated. This way we will grow a movement for the advancement of all workers everywhere.
3. That the Democrats and Republicans are primarily political parties of the rich, and, despite minor differences, both parties believe that the rich are the rightful decision makers of all world and domestic affairs.
4. That the current approach of union leadership to management and government has deeply and objectively failed. This approach and its tactics need to be challenged by the same rank-and-file solidarity, courage, and strategies that defined the labor movement during the times of our brightest moments and biggest victories.
5. That we, the working class, have the power and ability to build our own organizations to coordinate strikes, take office, and mobilize workplaces and communities. Through our efforts, we can create a world defined by security, sustainability, justice, freedom, and economic democracy for all.
We here at We Do The Work thank all you clock punchers for everything you do. If there is a power in the world that can force change to happen, it has to be you. Let’s walk that path together.
